Ten-year-old shoots teacher, kills himself in Brazil
[1] A 10-year-old boy shot his teacher and then committed suicide in southeast Brazil, local authorities reported
Thursday.
The incident took place at the Alcina Dantas Feijão Municipal School, in the city of São Caetano do Sul,
São Paulo state.
[5] According to the local police, David Mota Nogueira asked to go to the restroom but returned with a gun in
hand. He shot his teacher, 38-year-old Rosileide Queirós de Oliveira, in the back in front of some 25
classmates. The boy then left the classroom and shot himself in the head in the hallway.
Both the teacher and the student were taken to a hospital, but the boy did not survive. The teacher was
injured in the hip and, according to the authorities, is in stable condition.
[10] The police said the revolver used by the boy belonged to his father, a local police guard.
The police still don’t know what motivated the crime. According to the Public Security Secretary Moacyr
Rodrigues, there was no indication the boy had been bullied. Teachers reported he was a calm child and had
not been involved in any unruly activities.
The incident occurred five months after a shooting at a Rio school shocked Brazil, when a former student
[15] entered the public middle school and shot several students. He killed 12 children aged 12 to 14, most of
them girls, and injured another 12. After being injured by a policeman, the shooter killed himself.
